However, Kamala Harris controversially challenged his release, which led to Larsen spending more time in court to defend himself for a crime he did not commit.

Michelle-Lael Norsworthy was an incarcerated transgender woman who went to court to grant a request for a gender reassignment surgery in 2015. However, Harris worked to block the ruling in favor of the gender assignment, stating that there was no immediate urgency that required the surgery to be carried out. This was highly controversial as it seemed Kamala Harris was against the LGBTQ+ community.
